The race towards net zero:

How F1 teams compete in sustainability

Formula 1 has committed to net zero carbon emissions by 2030. All eleven teams hold the FIA's highest environmental accreditation β€” but only four go further by publishing standalone, dedicated sustainability reports.Β

We reviewed those reports from McLaren Mastercard, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS, Atlassian Williams and Aston Martin Aramco, and ranked them across environmental performance, social impact and reporting credibility.

Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS leads the grid with ESRS-aligned, independently audited reporting and ambitious reduction targets. Aston Martin Aramco follows closely with strong double materiality disclosures and external verification. Atlassian Williams stands out for social impact β€” while McLaren Mastercard has halved its emissions and built a compelling circular economy narrative. The gap between the teams often comes down to framework alignment and independent assurance rather than ambition.

With eight teams yet to publish, this whitepaper is both a benchmark and a challenge. The competitive edge in F1 is no longer just horsepower β€” it's accountability.
